Dont think the powers are against us! Spare a thought for Woodside's Chaney.

The week before last, Michael Chaney’s other ‘grand mansion’ – in Swanbourne – was smashed by lightning. That is two ‘warnings’ he has received within months of each other (the other being the bush-fire destruction of his Wallcliffe House mansion near Margaret River ). If he doesn’t get it this time after this second warning and pull Woodside out of JPP… well, as the Big Fella might say, “Make my day!” It seems that his head/heart-space is rapidly becoming a complete mess. I am told he has left his wife for a 28 year-old belly dancer.

Well, that was a roller-coaster ride, wasn't it?

First of all I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has worked so hard over the week or so as we headed into today's DAP meeting. Thanks to all the people who wrote to the Shire, asked questions at the meeting, those who protested outside and those went inside. Thanks to Councillor Eunice Yu for getting the ball rolling on the non-endorsement result, and thanks to Councillor Anne Poelina for her powerful speech in support of the community's wishes (certainly left Councillor Mitchell lost for words!)

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the DAP meeting, including all those who made written submissions (a long list was recorded in the minutes) and those who made such great presentations: Martin from EK, Jan, Keels, Robyn and Sue. Thanks to everyone who turned up for the meeting, and to Louise making it clear that the community does not recognise the authority or legitimacy of the DAP process (especially when they can't even comply with their own regulations). Thanks to all those who walked out, and those that stayed and kept the bastards honest (or as honest as they could be).

(I was going to thank Councillor Campbell for having the good grace to speak and vote against the motion to consider the application, but then he blew it by voting to approve the application anyway. Shame.)

The meeting commenced with lots of waffle and procedural issues. One detail that I'm sure most in the public gallery didn't recognise at the time was that the person who excused themselves from the meeting on impartiality grounds was the Deputy Presiding Member. My recollection of the Presiding Member's comments was that it was a matter of conscience, but we'll need to check the minutes.

Presentations by the Community Members were well-researched, thorough and to the point, but ultimately made no difference. The meeting exploded when Specilaist Member Dr Garry Middle moved that the application be approved with conditions. The weasel words, bureaucratic gobbledegook and self-justification that then proceeded to spill forth from his mouth inflamed emotions around the room, leading to Louise's outburst and a general walk-out. I urge you to look at Dr Middle's bio on the DAP website http://daps.planning.wa.gov.au/data/DAP%20Members/Appointed%20DAP%20specialist%20members.pdf and ask yourselves how someone with those qualifications can justify what he said and approved today (although the words "Gorgon" and "Pluto" are pretty big flags.) Tonight, the Broome Shire voted not to endorse the Responsible Authority Officer's report that had recommended for the approval of Woodside's current planning application to the Development Assessment Panel. DAP needs to decide what it is going to do now at its meeting tomorrow (Friday). This Shire decision will be sending the legal advisers into a flurry, overnight.

The Broome community has courage and tenacity. Courage to discover that we may not win, but the tenacity to keep trying even when we know we can lose.

New WA Cultural Heritage Due Diligence Guidelines - Department of Indigenous Affairs

Purpose of the Cultural Heritage Due Diligence Guidelines: Land users are obliged to comply with the provision of the Heritage Act and failure to do so may result in prosecution. These Guidelines provide guidance to assist in meeting this statutory obligation and they are intended to help identify activities which may impact adversely on Aboriginal heritage. Compliance with these Guidelines will not of itself guarantee compliance with the Heritage Act, but it will provide a useful starting place for consultation and engagement on these issues.

The Kimberley Land Council has advised that it is unable to provide any funding for this meeting (including for transport and fuel expenses).

Only five days before the DAP meeting is schedule will any information about that application be made available to the public on the DAPs website, what time the meeting is scheduled to determine the application, the agenda and related material will be published, including the Report.

Can additional information be submitted by a local government or other party after the regulation 12 responsible authority report has been sent to the DAP Secretariat?

Yes. Regulation 13 contemplates that from time-to-time, additional information will be submitted by a local government after the regulation 12 responsible authority )Broome Shire Council) has already been sent to DAP Secretariat. Furthermore, regulation 40(3) contemplates further submissions, both oral and written, from local governments, applicants and other members of the public.

Given the major community concerns about the magnitude of impacts of Woodside's investigations works at the proposed project is already having on our community why isn’t the shire being transparent and informing the community?

Can a Presiding Member allow verbal submissions even where there has not been a formal presentation request submitted?

Yes, although such a request should only be granted rarely. Standing Order 3.6.2 requires: “A person who, or group of persons which, wishes to be present at a meeting of a DAP to make a verbal submission to the DAP must provide a request in writing (a presentation request) to the DAP secretariat, at least 72 hours before the commencement of the meeting. The presentation request is to be accompanied by a written document setting out the substance of the submission the person or group proposes to make.

However, the DAP’s website goes on to state:

”It is acknowledged that time constraints may pose difficulties for members of the public to lodge a written presentation request in time. Although formal written requests are encouraged, regulation 40(3) and Standing Orders 3.6.1 and 4.1.1 suggest the

Presiding Member could issue his or her own invitation, outside of a presentation request. However, given the timeframes for DAP meetings, it is anticipated that the Presiding Member would only allow such a request in very rare and exceptional circumstance People invited to give a presentation may address the DAP during the meeting.

These include the applicant and anyone who may have made a submission on the application during public advertising. A request in writing is required to the DAP Secretariat at least 72 hours before the DAP meeting for anyone wishing to present at the meeting. Requests, made with the below form, are to be emailed to the DAP Secretariat daps@planning.wa.gov.au.

So in brief you will be given 5 days’ notice of the meeting, and you basically have only 2 days’ to read the Report, make your assessment and write a presentation and submit your request for presentation at the meeting with the understanding that the Presiding Member will determine if your request will be granted.

According to the Western Australian Planning Commission’s Planning Bulletin 106/2011:[ii]

‘DAPs are panels comprising a mix of technical experts and local government representatives with the power to determine applications for development approvals in place of the relevant decision-making authority’.

DAPs will be required to make decisions under the same planning instruments as local governments, and the same public consultation processes will apply.

The DAPs are aimed at improving transparency, consistency and reliability in decision-making on complex development applications, through:

• the involvement of experts with technical knowledge;

• appropriate balancing of local representation and professional advice in decision-making, to ensure that decisions are based on true planning merits; and

• the addressing of issues that can arise as a result of WA’s dual planning system, by making the relevant

DAP the single decision-making authority under both region schemes and local planning schemes (as applicable).

“The greenhouse gas footprint for shale gas is greater than that for conventional gas or oil when viewed on any time horizon, but particularly so over 20 years. Compared to coal, the footprint of shale gas is at least 20% greater and perhaps more than twice as great on the 20-year horizon and is comparable when compared over 100 years… These methane emissions are at least 30% more than and perhaps more than twice as great as those from conventional gas. Greenfield LNG projects have had their day and someone needs to tell Woodside shareholders

Analysts caution that high construction and labour costs in Australia and rising competition from global LNG suppliers mean that other stand-alone projects, including Woodside Petroleum’s Browse venture, are at risk of never going ahead.

“We are just pricing ourselves out of the market,” said Macquarie Equities energy analyst Adrian Wood. “Browse is touch and go. Greenfield projects have had their day.”

woodside’s Browse project, in which BP, BHP Billiton, Chevron and Shell have stakes, has also been targeting CPC but an initial deal struck in 2007 has never been firmed up. An accord to sell Browse LNG to PetroChina lapsed after project delays.

The Browse venture, which some analysts say could cost $US35 billion or more, has been troubled by land access problems and opposition to its site at James Price Point on Western Australia’s Kimberley coast.

The project also faces huge technical challenges. “Browse looks as if it is going more and more into the too difficult camp,” Tri-Zen International LNG consultant Tony Regan said.

“Too difficult because of the land and the cost.

Answer
The Department of State Development first became aware of the existence of the 1991Department of Aboriginal Sites report in August 2010. This was a result of a "passing" reference made to it in a Kimberley Land Council report to the Browse LNG Precinct Strategic Assessment.

He was taking photos and video footage of everyone who attended our very peaceful Community NO GAS RALLY. Why is our community (who are the unequivocal victims in this whole contrived process) being so closely watched and investigated when the real criminals (Woodside) have been provided with police escort to undertake unlawful and criminal activities daily, month after month? Like all other government departments and public servant employees they have been compromised and their legislative responsibilities/duties are constantly being undermined or redirected to the Department Of State Development for management. Why, because the WA state government is the proponent for this proposed LNG refineries at James Price Point. Like oil in water, the truth will float to the top and then maybe we will have justice.

A Woodside spokeswoman said yesterday's the court ruling was a matter for the state and would not delay the project.

''The provision of the land for the Browse LNG precinct is a matter for the state,'' she said. ''We don't believe that this result will impact on the project schedule.''

However, Michael Orlov, a lawyer for the Goolarabooloo people's representative Phillip James Roe, said Woodside faced delays.

''The minister wanted to be in a position to assure Woodside that they would have security of tenure by the end of this year, so Woodside can make an investment decision next year,'' Mr Orlov said.

''That's not possible at this stage.''

Mr Orlov said it would take Lands Minister Brendon Grylls about 12 months to submit fresh notices of intent to take land in the area.

In the meantime, proceedings to declare a songline area at the site under the Aboriginal Heritage Act was set to start as early as next week, Mr Orlov said.

Mr Orlov said the proceedings could halt the Browse development.

''Any ground-disturbing work in the area should have been approved by the minister under the Heritage Act,'' he said. ''It hasn't been, so until that approval is obtained, it may well have an impact [on the development].''

On top of this, development cost pressure, competition for scarce labour from eight other regional LNG plants under construction, no certain gas to extend the life of the Woodside-operated North West Shelf and LNG buyers' preference for expanding existing plants rather than building new ones make a James Price Point plant less likely, according to Credit Suisse. Credit Suisse has boosted its expected Browse development cost to $US36bn, compared to a development cost of $US26bn to use the gas to backfill the North West Shelf.

IF the police ask to have a quiet word with you, it's OK to do a runner, a Supreme Court judge confirmed yesterday.

Justice Stephen Kaye said that a man who bolted when police wanted to speak to him about an unpaid restaurant bill was entitled to make himself scarce, leaving the officers trailing in his wake.

After the judge ruled, the man at the centre of the test case was in no doubt of its importance.

"This decision does for Australian civil liberties what Mabo did for native title,'' Andrew Hamilton declared.

The three notices of intention to take issued by the Minister are invalid because they do not contain 'a description of the land required'. Mr McKenzie and Mr Roe have a sufficient interest in the validity of those notices to invoke the jurisdiction of the court. Their claims are upheld, and there will be declarations as to the invalidity of the notices. I will invite submissions from counsel as to the precise terms of those declarations.

Peru’s Largest Mining Project Suspended Following Protests

In Peru’s Cajamarca province, American company Newmont Mining suspended operations on the Conga mine, the largest mining investment in the country, estimated at $4.8 billion. The shutdown came after a week of protests and a general strike, brought on by residents' worries the mine will contaminate the local water supply.

Brazil's Odebrecht Withdraws Plan for Peruvian Dam

On November 24, Brazilian construction conglomerate Odebrecht announced it would discontinue the Tambo 40 project, a hydroelectric dam slated for construction in Peru. The dam is a part of a $20 billion bilateral agreement for six hydroelectric projects in Peru, signed by former President of Peru Alan García and former Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The dam came under fire since it would displace up to 15,000 indigenous people and flood over 54,000 acres of jungle. Peruvian critics also said the proposed hydroelectric projects would unfairly benefit Brazil by sending the majority of electricity there.

Woodside's $30bn Browse LNG plant in doubt

WOODSIDE Petroleum's plans to build the $30 billion-plus Browse liquefied natural gas plant near Broome appear to have become less appealing against the alternative of piping the gas 1000km for processing at the North West Shelf plant near Karratha when reserves there run low.

After recent industry developments here and in the US, analysts now put a greater probability on the Browse project's offshore gas fields being turned into LNG at the North West Shelf and say this would give the project a greater value.

Woodside Petroleum ((WPL)) held its annual investor update last Friday and the news with respect to production guidance was disappointing. While Pluto should deliver a reasonable result of 17-21mboe (million barrels of oil equivalent), the base business is where the the numbers will fall short of market expectations.

As Macquarie notes, the base operations are expected to generate production of 56-60mboe for 2012. This represents a decline of around 9%. The news was disappointing to Citi, particularly as management at Woodside had previously expressed confidence in being able to de-bottleneck the North West shelf operations and given a strong recent quarterly production report.

Minister Burke to stop Woodside desecrating and destroying the highly significant heritage and religious sites of his people at Walmandan (James Price Point) under sections 9, 10 and 12 of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act 1984 back in June of 2011.

He is still waiting for the Emergency Declaration whilst Woodside continue on their destructive clearing regime of significant spiritual sites.

20 Government agencies and related organisations honoured
Demonstrates co-operation between Government, industry and community

Twenty separate State Government agencies and related organisations were honoured tonight at the 16th annual Premier’s Awards for Excellence in Public Sector Management, hosted by Premier Colin Barnett.

The Western Australian Museum, in partnership with Woodside Energy Ltd, received the major award of the evening for its entry, Exploring the Marine Biodiversity of Northern WA.

Work by the WA Museum and Woodside has facilitated sound environmental management to help maintain and conserve for future generations the marine resources of the vast North-West region.

Mr Barnett said the project had enhanced the respective reputations of both partners, nationally and internationally, as well as providing networking; financial and operational benefits; and employment and market advantage.

For people to see the intelligence and integrity that people seek to behaved with under such sustained pressure, but also, the fight within the community –seeking a autonomous approach isn’t a bed of roses.

Often it is the same people on the same side that have difficulty –wanting the same thing but wanting to go about things very differently - it can get fractious and tactless.

It’s a warts and all this campaign, it is not glamourising and has little time or energy to show its noble side. When you’re under pressure for years, of course there are going to be fights - relationships and community breakdowns.

But there is also the healing.

"However, as reflected in the Negative Outlook, Woodside's rating faces downward pressure from delays and the consequent cost impact from the Pluto foundation project, additional and significant growth in capex and increasing development risks associated with the larger Australian projects," said Sajal Kishore, Director in Fitch's Asia Pacific Energy & Utilities team.

Fitch reiterates the increasing execution risks facing the significant number of proposed Australian LNG projects, including Woodside's. The agency expects a commitment to further expansions at Pluto and the Browse LNG development only likely after the commissioning of the Pluto LNG train 1 project, which should help improve in Woodside's financial risk profile.

Compulsory Acquisition Supreme Court of WA

Was a funpacked morning in WA Supreme Court yesterday!

Chief Justice Malcolm presided. He's smart. Barristers Collins and Orlov appeared for the applicants - TO's Phil Roe and Neil McKenzie. Some poor bugger by name of Mitchell (Senior state counsel) appeared for WA Gov/Minister.

Case challenges the legality of the compulsory acquisition process undertaken by Barnett government (via the WA Lands Acquisition Act) on grounds that the area to be acquired was not properly described by the Lands Minister (Brendan Grylls) in his Notice.

Basically, the government simply drew a big box around James Price Point and said somewhere within this area we are going to extinguish your native title but we haven't worked out exactly where yet. We'll let you know later what areas we actually meant. In the meantime we'll proceed with the compulsory acquisition process regardless.

'Our' barrister attacked this "paternalistic" approach by comparing what would happen in Nedlands of Rose Bay if land was to be acquired by the government, i.e.: It would have to very precisely define the exact area/property to be taken, not just draw a line around half the suburb and then tell residents the actual area was somewhere within this 'envelope' and 'stay tuned'.

Comparisons were also made with native title claims where government demands areas under claim have to be very precisely identified using survey methods. mmmmmmm...almost looks like one law for them and another for certain others....

Government counsel tried to fudge the issue of the need for precision by talking about "plus or minus 10%" and "its not the exact area that matters, its the purpose of the acquisition that counts" and other unconvincing arguments. Government also attempted to challenge the legal standing of Roe and Mckenzie on various technical grounds relating to the Federal Native Title Act.

Justice Malcolm pushed back strongly against almost all Crown's arguments, effectively ridiculing several of them and pointing out how inequitable and inconsistent many of them were.

At the end of two and half hours pleadings and argument, the Judge said he will make his decision "as a priority" when he returns from interstate - sometime in mid to late November.

Our barristers felt very confident that the Crown's defence did not stand up. Consequences of win unclear but (subject to appeal) could mean everything that has been done since original publication of compulsory acquisition notice is 'unlawful' and must be redone....so that includes the signing of the actual deal to exchange native title rights for a benefits package....

Neil McKenzie's and Phillip Roe's challenge in the Supreme Court of WA to the validity of the compulsory acquisition notices issued by the Minister for Lands in September 2010 was heard by the Chief Justice, Wayne Martin, in Perth today. While it would be premature for me to speculate on the outcome it would be fair to say that the hearing went very well for our side. The Court has reserved it's decision.

Judgment is expected to be delivered in November. If the challenge succeeds it will be necessary to consider the implications for the enforceability of agreements entered into with the State permitting the development of James Price Point. The agreements resulted from the exercise of procedural rights arising under the Native Title Act in consequence of the State giving notice of it's intention to compulsorily acquire all of the native title in certain land.

However an invalid notice is incapable of giving rise to any procedural rights - specifically, the procedural rights which were the basis for the agreements concluded in June 2011. Further legal challenges may be inevitable.

This rig that is right in front of Walmandan Tent Embassy was rocking and a rolling in the tide this morning. At some stages there, it looked like it was going to go over and everything on it. Woodside are going to have major problems and issues trying to build their proposed kms of jetties, breakwaters and shipping channels. Meanwhile, from all accounts they are not finding the solid rock they require. They are breaking through the thin reef lays only to find soft underbelly. Country can not and will not sustain their horrid dreams.

Cable Beach Vehicle Management

The Control of Vehicles (Off Road Areas) Act 1978 applies to the Broome townsite. There are off-road areas on Cable Beach set aside for use by road-registered vehicles. Motorcars and other road-registered vehicles are permitted to drive /and or park between the high and low watermarks on Cable Beach to the north of the access ramp at Cable Beach Reserve.

At Gantheaume Point vehicles are only permitted to travel between the high and low watermarks for 500 metres from the access ramp. The areas in which vehicles are permitted are clearly sign posted.

Unregistered vehicles are NOT permitted on any part of Cable Beach.

In order to conserve Broome's dune system, motor vehicles and motorbikes are not permitted above the high water mark, in sand dunes and in lagoon areas. The speed limit on all beach areas is 15km per hour. This limit is strictly enforced.

Should you breach the Control of Vehicles (Off Road Areas) Act you may be liable for a maximum penalty of $1,000.

Drivers on Cable Beach are ignoring speed limits and

compromising the safety of themselves and other beachgoers.

Gantheaume Point and Cable Beach has a speed limit of

15km/h and anyone ignoring this can expect to be infringed

$1000 per offence.

Shire President, Cr Graeme Campbell said it is essential that

everyone driving on the beach keeps to the speed limit of

15km/hr.

“Driving on the beach is currently a privilege and we make no

apologies for fining anyone not abiding by the law,” said Cr

Campbell.

“It is very simple, if you don’t want to get an infringement then don’t speed. The speed limit is there to ensure the beach can be safely enjoyed by everyone,” he said.

On September 23rd 2011, Broome community members gathered in solidarity to support the continuing efforts of Mayo county, Ireland. Around the world we stand united and proud. The James Price Point / Manari road Blockade commenced on June 7, 2011. A proposed gas hub precinct and deep water port, possibly some of the largest in the world will, if constructed signal the destruction of pristine wildness area the size of california and wipe out countless indigenous cultures struggling after 40,000 years in peaceful existence. We will not stand down.

News broke late last week that EPA found the palaeontological surveys of the dinosaur tracksites of the Dampier Peninsula within the Strategic Assessment Report to be inadequate.

The EPA has asked DSD to arrange for two international scientists to be flown out to Australia to further investigate these tracksites to inform the deliberations of the State’s chief environment agency.

Funds are urgently needed again to assist the Goolarabooloo and the Broome community to participate in these planned additional scientific investigations. Dr Steve Salisbury have been invited back by Joesph Roe to work with the visiting scientists. Hutchison asks if Woodside's enthusiasm for a gas hub at James Price Point is waning or has it remained.

Yesterday Colin Barnett, WA Premier, expressed his confidence that the project would go ahead.

Merrill Lynch oil and gas expert David Heard released a report urging Woodside to consider other options partly because its other joint-venture partners Shell, Chevron and BP are less enthusiastic.

Lynch says the environmental element of the James Price Point project is challenging. The project is dependent on LNG markets and the sale of gas contracts.

The Australian Conservation Foundation has issued an investor alert and is holding briefings for analysts and fund managers this week, warning the proposed James Price Point LNG precinct is a high risk investment.

Simon O'Connor, Economic Adviser, Australian Conservation Foundation, says they have seen an increasing risk from environmental and social perspectives.

The group held a teleconference to investors in Australia on Tuesday and have two more aiming at Australian, European, UK and Asian investors. O'Connor says the gas hub proposal has become riskier because of escalating protests and the recent national heritage listing of dinosaur footprints in the area.

O'Connor says reputation can have a serious impact on share price and uses the examples of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill and Rio Tinto’s Jabiluka uranium deposit. O'Connor says information has been revealed through a Wikileaks document which highlighted that BHP Billiton and Chevron were concerned with the pressure being applied by the Australian Government to rush the project.

Hutchison mentions that there has been aggressive targeting of some Indigenous land owners who voted in support of the project. O’Connor says he condemns such actions.

Greetings Voters

There have been so many meetings and so many disappointments it's hard to remember exactly when this occurred, but I recall a very well-attended Shire Council meeting at which the concerns of the Broome Community regarding the development at James Price Point were once again ignored or completely overridden.

At the end of the meeting Shire President Graeme Campbell remarked, somewhat flippantly, "I trust that allays your concerns". His response to the howls of derision that greeted that remark was along the the lines of "You can do something about it next October".

Well, Graeme, October is almost upon us, and lookee here:

We have a great team of candidates for election to the Shire, the Nowhere Else But Here team: Anne Poelina, Kandy Curran, Chris Maher and Mark Manado.

The team's campaign launch is at the Convention Centre, in Broome this coming week on Tuesday 20th at 5:30pm.

Anne is lining up some of the Pigrams to sing the campaign song, 'Nowhere Else But Here'. Nunzio will have flyers printed and ready to give out for distribution through your networks, up and down your streets, shop bench tops, stalls etc. Should be a fun night.

G'day Breakfast Clubbers

First of all, congratulations everyone for a fantastic effort at Shinju. From where I sat, the bilbies and dinosaurs and all their supporters has more vibrancy, energy and fun than the rest of the parade put together! Big applause to Nadia for getting the ball rolling, and for her and Jeff for pulling it all together. Thanks to Geoff and Julie for the trailer and Jason (?) for the truck. To Steve, and Nigel and Sue for housing the floats, to all the people who made bilby costumes and dinosaur outfits, the musicians and all the street performers, not forgetting the Polite Force of course - you were all fantastic. As were the photographers who have documented it all so well on Facebook.

And so another big week hits us. Don't forget that Tuesday night, 6.30pm at Lotteries House, a screening of The Pipe, the documentary about the Irish campaign that so closely parallels ours. Also on the bill, Last Paradise, an award-winning documentary from New Zealand.

Then, on Wednesday, an extra-special breakfast to celebrate 100 Days of the Blockade! Everyone who has ever been out to the Manari Road Blockade and Information Site (and everyone who hasn't) is invited to come along from 5am Wednesday for Breakfast and Bannerfest. I'm told that the Coffee Man will be there, and the Burger Man. Phil Matsumoto will be powering his election campaign and all the protectors with a sausage sizzle, and other culinary delights will be available. There will be music, videos, fun and a peaceful celebration of the fantastic campaign so far! Get yourself there, and invite everyone you know to join in the fun! Flyer attached.)

Following the breakfast, join a convoy to Walmadan for the official launch of the Walmadan Tent Embassy. A special relationship has been formed with the people at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Canberra, and this will be celebrated on Wednesday too, with a welcome from the elders and custodians for this country. This is expected at about 8am.

A reminder that there is a strict no-alcohol policy at both Manari Road and Walmadan Camp. Your assistance in complying with this is greatly appreciated.

Launch at 8am and paddle south (10km) to James Price Point. At about 10am we'll come ashore at the Point on the high tide. A support boat will be there. Another very important meeting tonight at Manari Road Blockade and Information site to show support for the campaign and everyone on the frontline. Events will continue to move quickly so it is vital that we have big numbers at Manari Road 5.30pm tonight. As posted on Facebook: it's imperative that all those present on Black Tuesday attend and more. please strongly consider, even if you haven't been to the blockade before, going up today and take as many of your friends as possible. if you haven't got transport, ask around, there's bound to be someone who'll give you a lift or contact one of the environmental groups and they may be able to help. this is urgent! so please make the time.

The Wednesday meeting will still go ahead tomorrow 5pm at Town Beach (note change of venue - please bring a chair). It has been that the first item on the Wednesday agenda each week be an update from all the different groups on what they have been/will be doing, to keep everyone informed and prevent duplication of effort. It would be appreciated if all groups could have someone there every week, and if that is not possible please send me an update that I can pass on to everyone.

Anyone interested in helping with a Shinju parade float ("Spirit of Broome", perhaps) please be there on Wednesday for a planning session after the main meeting.

Don't forget that this week is the last week to make sure your electoral roll details are correct in time for the Shire elections in October. If you are interested in becoming a Shire Councillor the Shire is holding an informal information session at the Shire's function room 6pm on Wednesday 31st August. WA stocks lost a combined 11.9 per cent in value in September, according to the Deloitte WA Index.
