Broome fears future as the next Dubai | The Australian

  1. After Black Tuesday perhaps it should read Belfast instead of Dubai.
I took my son and his mates up to see the blockade on that day and didn't like the effect it had on them at all.
They are all Aboriginal boys and we had spent years going to PCYC where they learnt to respect and love the police so much they all wanted nothing else but to join the force when they left school. Thanks to Georgie Dann,Mick Brierly and Sgt Hush.
What they saw on that day made them so sick and angry that they all changed, and it made me sad to see how.
When we got home they all started drawing up posters for the people on the blockade,"stay strong","don't give up",and many others. But then something happened that really shocked me.
They were doing ones like"kill the police",and "we hate the cops".Made me feel very sad indeed.
A few weeks back I listened to the WA police chief on ABC radio with Geoff Hutchinson. They were all lamenting the lack of help the police received from the community and the lack of respect kids showed the police.
If I could have spoken to him I would have said,"look no further than Black Tuesday, the Manari Road, and you will no why".
So a big thanks to all those pigs who ruined all the hard work of all those good cops, and years of hard work by many other people to teach their kids to have respect.
